France
Term: Fall, Spring, Summer Dates: Jan - May, Sept - Dec, June - July Description: The TU in France program (administered by the Institute of American Universites - IAU) offers summer, semester and academic year study abroad options in France. IAU's three centers of study serve a wide range of students' needs and interests. Each center has its own distinctive character. Located in the university town of Aix-en-Provence, Le Centre d'Aix is designed for liberal arts majors with beginning to advanced French language skills. All levels of French language and literature are offered, along with a variety of liberal arts courses taught in English or French. The Marchutz School of Art, also located in Aix-en-Provence, is a studio art school with an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to art education. The program combines studio classes, seminars, liberal arts courses, extensive museum excursions and off-site study for artists at all levels. Le Centre D'Avignon is located in the heart of the medieval town of Avignon in the Provence region of France. This program is designed for students with advanced French language skills who seek full integration into French daily life. Courses are available in a wide variety of dicisiplines.
Highlights: Avignon is a walled city made up of a medieval labyrinth of squares and cobblestone streets. Home to approximately 100,000, residents, this beautiful city is renowned for its museums, art galleries, and festivals. Students in Avignon will find it easier to meet local residents and other university students than those studying in a large city and will be exposed to the traditional culture of this region of France. Voted by the French as "the most desirable French town in which to live," Aix-en-Provence is referred to as the 'city of a thousand fountains' characterized by cobblestone streets and beautiful old buildings. The city is located just 15 miles north of Marseille in the Provence region of France and has inspired many great writers and painters including Paul Cézanne. Though small, Aix is a bustling town rich in history and local tradition yet equipped with all the modern facilities of a larger city.
